🎀 Princess: hey congrats you found a hidden page!!! keep it up!
id3 specifies that one of the embedded picture types may be "A bright coloured fish." the id3 picture types for some reason were adopted and kept intact by everyone, including the ogg people, meaning this picture type is available for .opus files. that's what we're providing! and for a while we were planning to include embedded artwork with our songs (consisting of the album's front & back cover, the artist logo, and any disc art), so the fish would've slotted right in. i drew 12 of them, in tribute to the 12 tracks of Colin Newman's Provisionally Entitled the Singing Fish, and we planned to add a random one to each track, for the user to discover after analyzing it with opusinfo or ffprobe.
unfortunately then we decided to cut embedded artwork since the filesize added up across all the different tracks (and we plan to put a lot of tracks on this site). a significant portion of the album's total filesize would end up being the same embedded images present in every individual file. this might sound petty if we're just talking about one album cover, but some albums have both front and back covers as well as disc art. best to just have each image present once on the album page (and not base64-encoded!) so they can be downloaded alongside the songs.
but then what about the fishies?? that's where this page comes in. the fishies are now preserved here in this special little sanctuary:
